Gingivitis is a common and mild form of periodontal gum disease that causes irritation, inflammation and redness of the part of your gum around the base of your teeth called the gingival. Healthy gums are firm and pale pink and fit tightly around the teeth.
Gingivitis seriously should be treated promptly as it can lead to much more serious gum disease called periodontitis and cause tooth loss.
Good oral hygiene, such as brushing at least twice a day and flossing regularly can stop the build up of plaque and getting regular dental checkups can help prevent and reverse gingivitis.
The symptoms are as follows:
- Gums that are Dusky red or dark red in colour.
- Inflammation or irritation.
- Bad breath.
- Receding or tender gums that bleed easily when brushing or flossing.
If you are suffering with any of the above symptoms then please call for an appointment with our Dentist for a check up to assess your gums.[:ru]
