Retainers

Retainers are pieces of plastic or metal that are custom-made for each person. No two retainers are the same. They’re made to match the shape of your mouth and the alignment of your teeth.

Once your braces have been removed, a retainer can be used to keep your teeth in the right place. Retainers are fixed (attached to the teeth) or removable. They may need to be worn all the time or part of the time.

TYPES OF RETAINERS

At ClinicaBritannia  we offer two kinds of retainers to help you keep the results you worked so hard for: removable retainers and fixed retainers.

REMOVABLE RETAINERS

Removable retainers are like thin sports mouthguards or Invisalign® clear aligners and sit over your teeth. To begin with, you will need to wear your retainers day and night, but after your teeth have had time to settle, we’ll advise you just to wear them at night. Because the retainers are removable, you can eat, brush and floss regularly.

FIXED RETAINERS

A fixed retainer is a thin wire attached to the back surface of your teeth. This retainer is permanently fixed, so you don’t have to worry about remembering to wear it. Because food can get trapped in the wire, we will show you the best cleaning techniques to use if you are fitted with this option.
