I am a female in my mid-forties who over the last few
years has become more and more overweight. I have
tried and failed many times to diet and lose the weight,
but failed each time. What am I doing wrong?
Firstly a visit to your GP is esential to assess your general
health. Your GP or practice nurse will want to measure your
weight and height to calculate your body mass index (BMI).
Also a simple blood sample can be taken to can rule out if you
have any underlying health problems and help to identify the
cause of your weight gain.
Diet and exercise are extremely important keys to weight loss,
so seeking advice and support from a Nutritionist is essential.
Keeping a food diary for a week before your appointment is
very helpful, as this gives a clearer picture into your current
diet and what changes need to be made.
Together, you will work out a game plan to lose weight
healthily and for the long term. It will be a plan tailored to your
lifestyle and your personal diet preferences.
Your nurse at the GP surgery should also offer you regular
follow-up appointments, every 2 weeks to a month, to
monitor your weight loss and progress.
